It’s hard to believe that a single gallon of paint can transform the look and feel of a room so dramatically, but it’s real. The secret to this makeover’s success was using a dark, moody color as the room’s backdrop.
Go for it if you’ve got a painting idea in mind. Fall is a great time to spruce up your house, and during BEHR Paint’s Labor Day sale, you can save $10 on 1 gallon and $40 on 3 and 5 gallons.
What’s more, guess what? You could be in luck today because I’m hosting a “Spruce up your home for Fall” giveaway, and two of you could win a $150 Home Depot gift card. Continue reading to qualify to win at the bottom of the page!
For the time being, let’s proceed with the bedroom makeover. This was the state of the room a few weeks ago… A somewhat shabby space that I started upgrading with fake ceiling beams and a built-in a long time ago.
However, I didn’t have the funds to complete the room at the time, so all of the furniture items I used were hand-me-downs and free Craiglist finds, such as the screen and headboard.
More before videos, a little bit about the plans I had in mind, and the work I went through to get this room to the blank slate you see below can be found in this post HERE. Oh, the Werner ladder had been by my side the whole time, the only one capable of reaching the top.
The next move was to decorate the wall with a wooden pattern. As I stated in my previous article, the high elevation was driving me insane, but hey, it got completed, and I’m pleased with the results.
I had to determine what color to paint the wall once the design was in place.
I knew I wanted a dark, moody color on this wall from the start of the project.
Blanco, adios adios!
If you’re like me and your whole house is a blank canvas, you may feel under pressure to find a dark color to paint a wall.
Now you have nothing to be afraid of!
The Home Depot now has a paint color range that allows picking a new color for your space or project a breeze.
I went to Home Depot and downloaded the Project Color app from the paint department to find my ideal shade.
You can match color, search for standard colors, find the perfect color by hue, or browse the many shades by the many different brands they carry once it’s mounted.
I adore being able to see the color in my own home! Yes, that is right. You can take a photo of your room by clicking where the arrow is pointing, or you can use one you already have. Then you paint your walls on the app and choose your favorite colors!
Oh, and you can order paint samples or purchase them right from the app.
Let me tell you all… I experimented with a plethora of colors before settling on only four. I placed an order for the samples, which came with free shipping. I put them to the test on the wall as soon as they arrived.
The Dark Secret of Behr
Evening Hush by Behr
Behr, Behr, Behr, Behr Charcoal Graphics
The last color was quickly crossed out because it was too greenish.
Graphic Charcoal is a color I like, but it wasn’t dark enough for this wall.
The two colors I liked the most were Dark Secret and Evening Hush, and in the end, I chose Evening Hush because it was just right! Dark, but not overly so.
The new online experience makes it easier to plan, find, and purchase your paint project.
All was required of me!
What’s more, guess what? All you see in this space was purchased from The Home Depot. Except for Don Quijote and the hanging planter, that is!
The soft linens, pillow inserts, wood on the wall, plants, and my favorite blackout velvety curtains were all found in the same place. Isn’t that incredible?!
I posted on Instagram how much fun it was to leave Home Depot with a bed, lumber, and screws in my cart.
I wanted a Mid-Century Modern look, and this bed with those adorable legs was perfect.
My husband’s antique camera collection is on display, and the mantel is adorned with my DIY camera wall art.
I’m still in that “I can’t believe this is my bed” phase. It’s fantastic.
All of the tinkerings with the wall design have come to an end. It was best to keep things straightforward at such a high elevation.
I’d never had a nightstand without legs or a lamp before, and they’re a game-changer! It’s so easy to vacuum the area below and arrange the top.
That’s all there is to it, gentlemen. I hope you enjoyed this makeover and took away some ideas to use in your own house.
