A spacious and private master bedroom with a generous (and beautiful) walk-in wardrobe and a luxurious bathroom will undoubtedly be on your wish list if you have the opportunity to create your dream home from the ground up.
Your bedroom should be a refuge, a place where you can withdraw from the outside world (and your children).
Their master suite, which is located on the second floor and has multiple windows and skylights, has a green view of the treetops and sea views.
Here, we share concept ideas and tips with those who want to build their bedroom retreat.
WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION FOR THE DESIGN?
Getting so many magnificent native trees around us encouraged us to make sure we had a bedroom that took advantage of the scenery. We wanted the space to feel peaceful, so we went with a subdued colour palette with many gritty tones, influenced by our local beach. The beds have an ever-expanding style that is based on actual beach huts.
TELL ME ABOUT YOUR BED!
We were excited to reuse the original hut’s old hardwood frame in the new house. Kyal selected several large poles and sanded them. They’re so stunning that it’s hard to believe they’re made of scrap wood. We stain the wood and create a four-poster bed out of it. Of course, this is a function that goes against the neutral colour scheme.
WHAT DO YOU Need IN THIS AREA?
Storage is fantastic! There is a lot of hanging room and clothing drawers. A carpet is one of Kyal’s’must-haves.’ The wool carpet is very luxurious underfoot. We’d never stayed in a room with carpet before, and it certainly has a ‘hotel feel’ to it. It’s also fun for kids to roll around on and play with. We have underfloor heating in our bathrooms in Melbourne, and we’d like to have it in this building as well.
FAVORITE PART OF THE PARENTS’ RETREAT?
We have windows on the north and east sides that look out over the trees, making for a beautiful view from the bed. It’s so much fun to watch the sun rising in the morning!
Plan SUGGESTIONS FOR A PARENTS’ RETREAT
Create a wish list for yourself and prioritize it to ensure that you know what you want and value in the room.
If you have extra room on your hand, build a calming or reading zone.
To ensure that you have a place for everything, consider storage wherever possible. Your room will feel more like a vacation if it is kept clean.
There are a variety of good bedding choices that provide additional storage beneath the bed.
Bedside or wall lamps are a perfect way to add suspense to space while still being incredibly functional.
